Elizabeth Cohen Pottery
I work in porcelain clay, mostly on the potter’s wheel. I alter the forms while still pliable. I am interested in making work that can be used for daily rituals such as eating favorite foods, sipping a cup of coffee or tea, or arranging flowers. My work can go in the dishwasher, which makes it practical for every day use.
Organic elements in nature such as flowers, fruits, seeds, shells and plants inform my work. I am interested in the play of shadow and light and the contrast of soft and hard in clay forms. The varied metaphorical nuances in nesting sets, such as family, security and comfort, intrigue me as well. Also important to me is the visual and tactile sensuality of glaze, which I think of as akin to the skin of a pot.
